About us

Caribbean Style maps tourist accommodations in the Caribbean in an objective and transparent way in the interest of both consumer and entrepreneur.

Caribbean Style is an independent organization that aims at mapping various accommodations in the Caribbean. At the request of the proprietor Caribbean Style classifies accommodations and a number of stars is appointed to the accommodation. This way, the consumer is offered a consistent and reliable system that judges accommodations in an unequivocal manner, with as an incidental matter the fact that these accommodations can be mutually compared. Besides, the classification system also offers the entrepreneurs the following advantages:

  1. The classification system offers the entrepreneur an effective marketing tool. The classification of accommodations is published in the classification register on the Caribbean Style website. Also, entrepreneurs are allowed to place the Caribbean Style logo and the concerning number of stars and/or the ecolabel onto their website, brochures and/or other commercial manifestations.
  2. By classifying the accommodation(s), the level of quality and sustainability of the accommodation(s) is/are established and the entrepreneurs will be stimulated to improving the quality and sustainability of their property.
  3. If desired, Caribbean Style offers the entrepreneurs support in developing policy (entrepreneurship) in which quality as well as sustainability take in a central position. This is in order for the tourist business to grow, without losing sight of the importance of local nature and culture.

Caribbean Style stands for sustainable tourism!

For a lot of countries earnings from tourism are of life importance. Without tourism no employment and no income. But tourism does not only provide employment. Because of economic impulse tourism gives to a country, things like infrastructure, education and such can be greatly improved. Tourism is good for a lot of countries, but there is a downside. A lot of money earned by the tourist industry disappears into the pockets of the big multinationals and the local inhabitants barely get anything. But not only have the tight earnings formed a problem. Mass-tourism severely threatens the local plant- and wildlife and the local culture also gets into a tight place. This is extremely sour, because it is the nature and the culture that attracts tourists. So in the long run mass-tourism comes down to cannibalism, where the local inhabitants stay behind unemployed with destroyed nature and culture. The foreign multinationals leave town and go to "new" areas, where everything starts all over again.

Globally, lots of initiatives have been started to stop this process and to advance sustainable tourism. Caribbean Style recognizes the necessity of these initiatives and wants to take its responsibility in this. Caribbean Style classifies accommodations in the Caribbean. When exercising these core activities the preservation of local nature and culture will play a central part in this!
